The Browsers

Omnisphere comes with thousands of sounds, so it’s very important that you can find the kind of sound you are looking for quickly.

There are three different kinds of sounds in Omnisphere that require you to use the Browser:

• Soundsources
  Soundsources are created from sampled material that is loaded when the Oscillator is in Sample Mode. This kind of sound is mostly browsed if you are creating Patches from scratch or customizing existing ones.
• Patches
  Patches are the most commonly used type of sound in Omnisphere. They are a snapshot of a multitude of settings in a Part, including Oscillators, Envelopes, Filters, FX, Modulations, etc.
• Multis
  A Multi is a snapshot of the entire state of the instrument, including the ability to load up to 8 Patches simultaneously. You may want to save and browse Multis when you need to recall multiple parts, or when using Live Mode or Stack Mode.

Full Browser and Mini-Browser

There are two types of Browsers in Omnisphere: the Full Browser and the Mini-Browser. The Full Browser utilizes the entire Omnisphere interface, letting you view more attributes at once. The Mini-Browser uses only the leftmost area of the interface, making the controls still accessible—convenient for editing sounds while browsing.

• The Full Browser can be used to browse Patches, Multis, or Soundsources.
• The Mini-Browser can be used to browse Patches or Multis.

Quick Guide to Browsing

With the Browsers’ sophisticated filtering and search capabilities, you have a quick and intuitive way to find exactly what you need in Omnisphere’s large library of sounds.

• Start by choosing a Directory,
• Then, select a Category.
• If you are browsing Patches in the factory libraries, be sure to select one of the included Sub-Categories. These can help narrow the list of results and improve the chances of finding the sounds you are looking for.
• Select a sound from the list of results.

Additionally, Omnisphere’s sounds are tagged with attributes (e.g., Author, Keyword, Mood, Timbre, etc.), which can be used to filter the results further.

*While using the Mini Patch Browser, you can step through Patches with the Patch Info panel open. Simply click on the Info button on the left of the Patch Name Display to open it.

Navigation

There are two ways to quickly distinguish what kind of sound you are browsing:

1. The titles in each Browser’s Header.

2. The images in the Info areas.

When you load Soundsources, each one will display a unique image for that sound, giving you a visual representation of what to expect.

When you load Patches and Multis, they will display the image of the library to which they belong.
