Modeled after the legendary Universal Audio 1176®, this effect unit brings the legendary compression sound heard on countless iconic recordings to Omnisphere. One of the simplest compressors to use in history, it keeps transients under control like no other thanks to its fast FET design. This effect features recreations of the most coveted revisions the hardware went through over the decades and extends its capabilities with Mix, Bass Filter, and Harmonics controls. It even includes the unique “ALL” mode to recreate the heavy compression and coloration of the original!

  • MINI-SLIDER
Controls the balance of the dry signal and the processed (compressed) signal. The percentage indicates the amount of the signal that is compressed.
    Range: 0 ~ 100%

PAGE ONE CONTROLS

  • INPUT

Controls the input level of the signal and affects the threshold. Higher levels increase the amount of limiting or compression.
Range: –inf dB to 0 dB
  • RATIO

The range of dynamic compression once the compressor engages.
    Range: 4:1, 8:1, 12:1, 20:1, ALL
    • When ALL is selected, the attack time is delayed and the transient distortion becomes more apparent. Engineers discovered this by accident and loved it!

  • ATTACK

Adjusts the amount of time until compression starts once the audio has gone above the Threshold level.
    Range: 20 ~ to 800 microseconds
  • RELEASE

Adjusts the amount of time until compression stops once the audio has dipped below the Threshold level.
    Range: 50 ~ 1100 milliseconds
  • MAKEUP

Adjusts the overall output to compensate for compression level reduction.
Range: –inf dB ~ +12 dB

PAGE TWO CONTROLS

  • TRIM

    Adjusts the overall input.
    Range: –15 dB ~ +15 dB

HARMONICS

Adjusts the amount of added harmonics that result from input saturation.
__Range: –15.00 ~ +15.00_

  • YEAR

Selects the year for each of the 3 major hardware revisions for subtle sonic differences.
-1967 (Blue Stripe) More harmonic distortion.
-1970 (Blackface LN) Lower noise, less harmonic distortion.
-1979 (Silverface) Lowest amount of coloration.
  • BASS FILTER
At times, compressors can be overloaded by low frequencies. This control adjusts the gain of a 90 Hz low shelf filter and is useful to reduce pumping when the input signal is bass-heavy.

    Range: 0 dB ~ -15 dB
  • ULTRA / HQ

Engages internal oversampling for the effect when ULTRA is selected.
  • OUTPUT

    Adjusts the output level.
    Range: –15 dB ~ +15 dB
