Envelope

Modifying the Envelope settings of a Patch is among the most common edits used to make a sound fit a piece of music. Using the ENVELOPE Global Controls, you can do that from a single page—regardless of how the Patch is programmed, always obtaining musical results.

The Global Controls ENVELOPE section provides AMP and FILTER Envelope controls (ADSR + Velocity Amount). They’re great for doing simple edits, such as decreasing the Release time if a Patch rings for too long, or for more dramatic edits, like turning a pluck into a pad by slowing the Attack and Release times.

These controls are assigned to the corresponding Envelope parameters on each Layer based on the following rules:

• The Layers must be audible: If a Layer is disabled, or enabled but with the Layer level all the way down, its Envelopes will not be controlled by the ENVELOPE Global Controls.

• Depending on the Patch settings, the ENVELOPE controls can be unipolar or bipolar:
  • They are unipolar when there is only one Layer in use or the audible Layers have identical settings, representing a 1:1 ratio with the assigned parameter.
  • The controls become bipolar when a parameter (e.g. Amp Envelope Release) is set to a different value on different Layers. For example, if the Amp Envelope Release on Layer A is set to 3 seconds and on Layer B is set to 7 seconds, the Global Controls Amp Envelope Release knob will be a bipolar offset of both. The detent in the middle represents the original Release settings of both Layers in the Patch (3 seconds and 7 seconds, respectively). Bipolar controls are convenient because they allow settings to be automatically scaled: moving the knob from the center to the left will gradually shorten the Release times of 3 and 7 seconds to the shortest value of 0 seconds on both Layers. Moving the knob from the center to the right will let the Patch ring out longer by gradually increasing the release times of 3 and 7 seconds to the highest value of 20 seconds on both Layers.
