In FADER mode, all engaged Layers are triggered simultaneously, but the fader’s horizontal position on the Grid determines which ones will be heard – only the Layers with active Zones directly under the FADER handle will be audible. The Quadzone Fader is a polyphonic modulation target, which makes FADER mode ideal for creating all kinds of dynamic timbral changes, from evolving textures and pulsing crossfades to round robin-like effects and expressive gestures using aftertouch or MPE.
Modulating the Quadzone Fader
When using Quadzone in FADER mode, modulating the Quadzone Fader is key to creating unique timbral changes: a slow LFO can create constantly evolving textures, a Mod Envelope allows you to draw intricate movements, Random can give you surprising results with every new note, and the Mod Wheel is useful for manually controlling it.
To select a Mod Source, Right-click on the Quadzone Fader and select a Source from the Modulation Menu.

When modulated, the Quadzone Fader will display the Modulation Offset in green.

Quadzone Fader Mode Examples
Explore the following Patches to learn the range of results that modulating the Quadzone Fader can create:
- Cascading Canon – A swirling wavetable pulse created by modulating the Quadzone Fader with a fast polyphonic LFO.
- Alternation Drops – Using “3-step” as a modulation source, every new note triggers a different Layer, each tuned at a different octave.
- Circle of Life – An LFO creates a slow crossfade between different Layers.
- Industrial Age – Industrial pulse created by using an LFO to modulate the Quadzone Fader.
- Shock Therapy – A fast Filter Envelope is used to quickly crossfade between layers.
- Dynamo Synth Driver – Modulates the Quadzone Fader with Velocity, and the velocity from the Arpeggiator’s pattern controls which layers are triggered.
- Dawn Treader Tailwinds Wheel – Crossfade between layers using the Mod Wheel.
- Floating JD Voices – Pulsing layer crossfade, created by modulating the Quadzone fader with a ramp LFOa ramp LFO.
- Boy Soloist Allelujahs Wheel – The Quadzone Fader is modulated by the Mod Wheel, and can be used to scan through different vocal phrases.
