Filter

The Global Controls FILTER has an ON/OFF switch and three controls: CUTOFF, RESO, and ENV. These are automatically assigned to the corresponding parameters in the Layers’ Filter sections, allowing you to control the Filter for all Layers in a Patch from a single page.

The Global Filter controls will be assigned based on the following rules:

• The Layers must be audible: If a Layer is disabled, or enabled but with the Layer level all the way down, its Filter will not be controlled by the Filter Global Controls.
• If the Filter section is disabled in all the Layers in a Patch, modifying any of the FILTER controls will automatically enable the Filter sections of any audible Layers.
• If a Patch consists of Layers where the Filter section is enabled in some but disabled in others, the Filter Global Controls will be assigned to only the Layers with active Filters. Layers where the Filter section is disabled will not be affected.

• Depending on the Patch settings, the controls can be unipolar or bipolar:
  • They are unipolar when there is only one Filter section in use or the audible Layers have identical settings, representing a 1:1 ratio with the assigned parameters.
  • The controls become bipolar when a parameter (e.g. Cutoff) is set to a different value in different Layers. For example, if Layers A and B have the Filter engaged and the Cutoff is set to .225 kHz in Layer A and set to .900 kHz in Layer B, the Global CUTOFF knob will become a bipolar offset, controlling both. The detent in the middle represents the original setting of the Patch (.225 kHz and .900 kHz). Bipolar controls are convenient because they allow settings to be automatically scaled: moving the knob gradually from the center to the left will reduce the Cutoff frequencies of .225 kHz and .900 kHz to the lowest value of .050 kHz. Moving the knob gradually from the center to the right will increase both Cutoff frequencies in a scaled manner from .225 kHz and .900 kHz to the highest value of 19 kHz.
