Omnisphere is compatible with MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE), an extension to the MIDI standard that enables per-note expressive control, allowing parameters like pitch, volume, and timbre to be adjusted individually for each note. The creative possibilities for polyphonic expression in the Mod Matrix are wide open for the adventurous synthesist!
MPE works around the limitations of standard MIDI by assigning each note its own MIDI channel. Since each note is assigned to a separate channel, expression messages (pitch bend, pressure, timbre) affect only that note. This provides the means to create more expressive instrumental performances, and it also opens new possibilities for sound design, allowing complex per-note timbral manipulations.
To use MPE with Omnisphere, you need an MPE-compatible host or controller.
