MIDI Learn

In Sonar, you can set the Omnisphere FX Rack plug-in to receive MIDI from your MIDI controller. The procedure is the same whether you are loading the Omnisphere FX Rack as an insert on an audio or instrument track. For our example, we will use an audio track.

If you don’t already have an audio track you’d like to effect, select Insert > Audio Track from the menu bar to create an audio track, as shown below:

Click the drop-down arrow to reveal the full track header, including the insert slots.

In the inserts box, click the plus sign to add a new insert, open the “Insert Audio FX” menu and select “FX-Omnisphere.”

Open the “FX-Omnisphere” interface and select “Enable MIDI Input” from the Settings menu.

Select Insert > MIDI Track from the menu bar to create a MIDI track.

Click the drop-down arrow to reveal the full track header, including the MIDI Input and Output section.

For the Input of the MIDI Track, make sure you see your MIDI controller selected.

For the Output of the MIDI track, make sure “FX-Omnisphere” is selected.

NOTE: The first number you see in the name of the “FX-Omnisphere” instance refers to the track it’s inserted on, while the second number indicates the instance number.

Open the “FX-Omnisphere” interface and either add an individual FX unit or load a Rack preset.

Right-click the parameter you want to control and select “MIDI CC Learn.”

You should then see a flashing blue indicator around the parameter, which means it’s waiting for the CC to be sent and learned.

Move a knob/slider on your MIDI controller to map it to the flashing parameter in FX-Omnisphere.

You should now be set up to control that parameter with MIDI CCs. You can repeat the process with other parameters/controls, as desired.
