The Roland JD-Xi is a good option if you want some basic control over Omnisphere in a portable format. You have access to multiple Filter types, an LFO, and a pretty capable FX section. The main downside is that the Envelope is adjusted from a single knob, so you are pretty much choosing between preset shapes. On the other hand, it has a pretty cool sequencer that records both the notes you play and the knobs you move, and sends that via MIDI to Omnisphere — not bad for a small package! If you’re looking for something portable, this is a decent choice.
Roland JD-Xi Strengths:
- Parameter Sequencing
- Multiple Filter Types
- Effects Controls
