Setting Up the FL Key Mini

When using the Novation FL Key Mini to control Omnisphere, the knobs on the FL Key Mini are assigned to the following Omnisphere parameters:

  • Knob 1 (CC#21) – Global Controls Cutoff
  • Knob 2 (CC#22) – Global Controls Resonance
  • Knob 3 (CC#23) – Global Controls Filter Envelope Amount
  • Knob 4 (CC#24) – Global Controls Vibrato Depth
  • Knob 5 (CC#25) – Global Controls Ambience Amount
  • Knob 6 (CC#26) – Global Controls Ambience Length
  • Knob 7 (CC#27) – Global Controls Unison
  • Knob 8 (CC#28) – Global Controls Glide

Setup

To control Omnisphere using the FL Key Mini, you’ll need to do the following:

  1. Connect the FL Key Mini to your computer via USB.
  2. Set up the FL Key Mini to control Omnisphere.
  3. Enable the FL Key Mini as a MIDI input device in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
  4. Activate the FL Key Mini Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.

FL Key Mini SETUP

Omnisphere relies on the factory default settings of the “Custom Pot Mode” on the FL Key Mini for external control.

  • You can activate “Custom Pot Mode” by holding the [SHIFT] button and then press the last drum pad on the top row labeled “Custom” (directly underneath knobs).

HOST CONNECTION

  • Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the FL Key Mini is enabled as a MIDI input device.

OMNISPHERE SETUP

  • Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button.
  • From the drop-down menu, select “Novation > Novation FL Key Mini” to activate the FL Key Mini hardware profile.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Not working? Here are some things to try:

  • Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the FL Key Mini?
  • Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the FL Key Mini to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired part in Omnisphere.
  • If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel of the FL Key Mini matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere Part you want to control.
  • Are the knobs on the FL Key Mini sending the correct MIDI CC messages to control Omnisphere? See the list at the top of the page for the correct MIDI CC numbers.
