Setup

To control Omnisphere using the Hammer 88 Pro, you’ll need to do the following:

  1. Connect the Hammer 88 Pro to your computer via USB.
  2. Set up the Hammer 88 Pro to control Omnisphere.
  3. Enable the Hammer 88 Pro as a MIDI input device in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
  4. Activate the Hammer 88 Pro Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.

HAMMER 88 PRO SETUP

Omnisphere relies on the factory default settings of Preset 16 while in Preset Mode on the Hammer 88 Pro for external control.

  • Activate Preset mode by pressing the [DAW/ PRESET] button until the [DAW/PRESET] button is dark / dimmed — this indicates that the Hammer 88 Pro is in Preset mode.
  • Lastly, activate Preset 16 by using the scroll encoder to scroll through the various presets until you see Preset 16 displayed.

HOST CONNECTION

  • Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the Hammer 88 Pro is enabled as a MIDI input device.

OMNISPHERE SETUP

  • Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button.
  • From the drop-down menu, select “M-Audio > M-Audio Hammer 88 Pro” to activate the Hammer 88 Pro hardware profile.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Not working? Here are some things to try:

  • Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the Hammer 88 Pro?
  • Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the Hammer 88 Pro to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired part in Omnisphere.
  • If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel of the Hammer 88 Pro matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere Part you want to control.
  • Are the knobs on the Hammer 88 Pro sending the correct MIDI CC messages? A simple way to check this is by using MIDI Monitor by Snoize or go into Edit mode on the Hammer 88 Pro by holding [SHIFT] and press the [DAW/ PRESET] button and then checking the MIDI CC assignments for each knob. See the list at the top of the page for the correct MIDI CC#s.

NOTE: If you need to change the MIDI CC#s of the knobs on the Hammer 88 Pro, you can either edit the preset on the Hammer 88 Pro directly or use the M-Audio Hammer 88 Pro Preset Editor application to either restore Preset 12 or manually reconfigure the preset to match the MIDI CC#s listed above.
