Setup
To control Omnisphere using the JD-08, you’ll need to do the following:
- Using a USB cable, connect the JD-08 to your computer.
- Verify that your JD-08 system firmware is up to date with v1.02 or higher.
- Verify that your JD-08 is transmitting MIDI control through USB.
- Download and install the appropriate JD-08 USB driver on your computer.
- Enable “Boutique” as a MIDI input device to Omnisphere in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
- Activate the JD-08 Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.
FIRMWARE
Check the firmware (system program version) of your JD-08 by holding Hold downing the [BANK 1] button and turn on the power.

Wait several seconds and the system program version will shown in the display.

If those indicators are not lighted as shown above, access the Roland website, download and install the latest JD-08 System Program version.
MIDI OUTPUT SETUP
To make sure the controls in your JD-08 transmit MIDI through USB, hold down the [ EDIT/COMMON ] button, then press the [ BANK 9 ] button

Press the [ BANK 9 ] button to again for MIDI CH.
Turn the VALUE knob to set the MIDI channel.

USB DRIVER
Check to see if the necessary Boutique USB driver has already been installed by opening up the Omnisphere Standalone (or your preferred DAW) and verify the Roland JD-08 is on your list of MIDI inputs.
If the JD-08 is not listed as a MIDI input, download and install the driver that is compatible with your computer’s operating system from the Roland Support page. Restart the host and you should see it listed.
HOST CONNECTION
Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the JD-08 is enabled as a MIDI input device.

OMNISPHERE SETUP
Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button:

From the drop-down menu, select “Roland>Roland JD-08” to activate that Hardware Profile.

Profile Notes
- Due to a limitation on how the JD-08 sends MIDI CC Messages, GUI Link is not supported for every parameter.
- When PITCH ENV is selected, TIME KEY FOLLOW adjusts the modulation depth of Mod Envelope 1 to Pitch in Omnisphere.
Unassigned Controls
The following JD-08 controls have no effect on Omnisphere:
- COMMON
- EFFECTS
- LFO DELAY
- TVA ENV L1, L2, L4
- TVF ENV L1, L2, L4
- PITCH ENV L1, L2, T3, SUSTAIN, L4
- BIAS UPPER/LOWER
Troubleshooting
Not working? Here are some things to try:
- Make sure the MIDI Channel is set to Ch.1.
- Is the Control Change Output Mode set up correctly?
- Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the JD-08?
As a last resort, you can reset all Global parameters to the factory defaults by the following steps:
- While holding down the [BANK 2] button, turn on the power. The [PAGE/TIE] button blinks. To cancel the factory reset, turn off the power.
- Press the [PAGE/TIE] button.
- Turn the power of the JD-08 off and then on again.
