Setting Up the K-Mix

When using the Keith McMillen K-Mix to control Omnisphere, the Touch Strips on the K-Mix are assigned to the following Omnisphere parameters:

  • Touch Strip 1 (CC#01) – Mod Wheel
  • Touch Strip 2 (CC#02) – Global Controls Cutoff
  • Touch Strip 3 (CC#03) – Global Controls Filter Envelope Amount
  • Touch Strip 4 (CC#04) – Global Controls Vibrato Depth
  • Touch Strip 5 (CC#05) – Global Controls Ambience Amount
  • Touch Strip 6 (CC#06) – Global Controls Ambience Length
  • Touch Strip 7 (CC#07) – Global Controls Unison
  • Touch Strip 8 (CC#08) – Global Controls Glide

Setup

To control Omnisphere using the K-Mix, you’ll need to do the following:

  1. Connect the K-Mix to your computer via USB.
  2. Setup the K-Mix to control Omnisphere.
  3. Enable the K-Mix as a MIDI input device in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
  4. Activate the K-Mix Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.

K-MIX SETUP

Omnisphere relies on the factory default settings of Preset 1 on the K-Mix. Typically, Preset 1 is automatically activated when the K-Mix is turned on. However, you can make sure Preset 1 is loaded on the K-Mix by pressing the [PRESET] button then the [A] button.

  • If you have customized Preset 1 on the K-Mix, please use the K-Mix editor to return the touch strips MIDI CC assignments to their default settings. See the list at the top of the page for the correct MIDI CC#s.

HOST CONNECTION

  • Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the K-Mix is enabled as a MIDI input device.

OMNISPHERE SETUP

  • Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button.
  • From the drop-down menu, select “Keith McMillen > Keith McMillen K-Mix” to activate the K-Mix Hardware Profile.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Not working? Here are some things to try:

  • Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the K-Mix?
  • Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the K-Mix to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired part in Omnisphere.
  • If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel of the K-Mix matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere Part you want to control.
