Although Omnisphere relies on certain default factory settings on the KROME, it is necessary to go through a short setup process to ensure the best experience. There are many ways for the KROME to control external gear, but we recommend the following steps below to get you started controlling Omnisphere.
Setup
To control Omnisphere using the KROME, you’ll need to do the following:
- Connect the KROME to your computer via USB.
- Download and install the Korg USB-MIDI Driver.
- Set up the KROME to control Omnisphere.
- Enable the KROME as a MIDI input device in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
- Activate the KROME Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.
USB DRIVER
Korg devices require a USB-MIDI Driver when connecting to any Windows operating systems or to Mac OS 10.10 through 10.14.
- You can check to see if the necessary USB driver has already been installed by opening up the Omnisphere Standalone (or your preferred DAW) and verify the KROME is on your list of MIDI inputs.
- If your KROME is not on your list of MIDI inputs, access the Korg website to download and install the Korg USB-MIDI Driver.
KROME SETUP
Omnisphere relies on the default settings for the TONE and USER knobs on the KROME. All you’ll need to do is make sure the knobs are enabled to send MIDI CC messages out of the KROME by going through the following steps:
- Press the [GLOBAL] button and navigate to the “P1: MIDI” page
- Open the “MIDI Routing” page.
- Make sure “Enable Control Change” is checked.
- Lastly, press the [PROG] button, and load any Program if one has not been selected already.

HOST CONNECTION
Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the KROME is enabled as a MIDI input device.
OMNISPHERE SETUP
- Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button
- From the drop-down menu, select “Korg > Korg KROME” to activate the KROME hardware profile.

Omnisphere relies on the default settings of the Tone Knobs and User Knobs on the KROME for external control.
- If you have not customized the knobs for User Mode, then you can toggle between the Tone and User banks by pressing the [SELECT] button located near Knob 1.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Not working? Here are some things to try:
- Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the KROME?
- Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the KROME to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired part in Omnisphere.
- If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel on the KROME matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere Part you want to control.
- Are the KROME “User” knobs sending the default MIDI CC messages? You can check this by selecting the [PROG] on the KROME, select the “P1: Basic/ Controllers – Controllers Setup” page and check the numbers listed for “Knob1-B” through “Knob4-B”. The correct MIDI CC#s are listed at the top of the page.
