Setup
To control Omnisphere using the MAX49, you’ll need to do the following:
- Connect the MAX49 to your computer via USB.
- Set up the MAX49 to control Omnisphere.
- Enable the MAX49 as a MIDI input device in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
- Activate the MAX49 Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.
MAX49 SETUP
Omnisphere relies on the factory default settings of a “Generic” Program on the MAX49.
- If you haven’t customized any Generic Programs on the MAX49 then you can simply load the first available Generic Program by pressing the [PROGRAM] button and then turn the Value Dial on the MAX49 to browse through all programs until “15. Generic” is highlighted. Lastly, press down on the Value Dial to load the program.
- If you have customized any of the Generic Programs on the MAX49, you can simply load any other Generic Program that hasn’t been customized.
- If you have customized all available Generic Programs then you’ll need to use edit one of your Generic programs on MAX49 and match the MIDI CC#s of each Touch Fader to the MIDI CC#s listed at the top of the page. Be sure to save the Generic program so that you can easily recall it later.
- Lastly, make sure the Touch Faders are set to Bank 1-8 by pressing the Bank [1-8] button to the left of the touch faders.
HOST CONNECTION
- Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the MAX49 is enabled as a MIDI input device.
OMNISPHERE SETUP
- Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button.
- From the drop-down menu, select “Akai > Akai MAX49” to activate the MAX49 hardware profile.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Not working? Here are some things to try:
- Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the MAX49?
- Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the MAX49 to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired part in Omnisphere.
- If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel of the MAX49 matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere Part you want to control. You can change the MIDI Channel that the MAX49 is using by pressing the [GLOBAL] button and configuring the MIDI Channel.
- Are the MAX49 Touch Faders sending the correct MIDI CC messages? You can check this by pressing the [EDIT] button and configuring each Touch Fader to send the same MIDI CC#s listed at the top of the page.
NOTE: If you needed to change any MIDI CC#s, you can save this as a new Program by holding down [SHIFT] and then press [EDIT].
