Setup

To control Omnisphere using the MIDImix, you’ll need to do the following:

  1. Connect the MIDImix to your computer via USB.
  2. Set up the MIDImix to control Omnisphere.
  3. Enable the MIDImix as a MIDI input device in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
  4. Activate the MIDImix Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.

MIDImix SETUP

Omnisphere relies on the factory default settings of knobs and faders on the MIDImix.

  • If you have not customized the knobs and faders on your MIDImix then you can move to the next steps under “HOST CONNECTION.”
  • If you have already customized the knobs or faders on the MIDImix, please use the Akai MIDImix Editor to reset the MIDImix back to factory default settings listed t the top of the page.

HOST CONNECTION

  • Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the MIDImix is enabled as a MIDI input device.
  • When using a DAW, only enable the MIDImix as a generic MIDI controller instead of a “Control Surface.”

OMNISPHERE SETUP

  • Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button.
  • From the drop-down menu, select “Akai > Akai MIDImix” to activate the MIDImix hardware profile.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Not working? Here are some things to try:

  • Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the MIDImix?
  • Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the MIDImix to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired part in Omnisphere.
  • Make sure your MIDImix is not enabled as a control surface for your DAW by going to your DAW’s Setup, Preferences, or Options menus.
  • If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel of the MIDImix matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere Part you want to control. You can change the MIDI Channel of the MIDImix by using the Akai MIDImix Editor application.
