Setup

To control Omnisphere using the MOXF, you’ll need to do the following:

  1. Connect the MOXF to your computer via USB.
  2. Set up the MOXF to control Omnisphere.
  3. Download and install the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver for your computer.
  4. Enable the MOXF as a MIDI input device in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
  5. Activate the MOXF Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.

MOXF SETUP

Omnisphere relies on the default settings of the Generic Control Template on the MOXF while it is in DAW Remote mode.

  • Activate DAW Remote mode by pressing the [DAW Remote] button, then press the Bank Select [Dec] / [Inc] buttons to switch through all the available templates until you see “50: Generic.”
  • Press the [STORE] button to activate the Controller Template.

MIDI OUTPUT SETUP

Follow these steps to configure the MOXF to send MIDI through USB:

  1. Press the [UTILITY] button.
  2. Press [F6] “MIDI” button and then press [SF4] “OTHER” button.
  3. Set “MIDI IN/OUT” to “USB.”
  4. Press the [STORE] to activate these settings.

USB DRIVER

  • Check to see if the necessary Yamaha Steinberg USB driver has already been installed by opening up the Omnisphere Standalone (or your preferred DAW) and verifying the MOXF is on your list of MIDI inputs.
  • If the MOXF is not listed as a MIDI input, download and install the driver that is compatible with your computer’s operating system from the MOXF Downloads page.
  • Restart the host and you should see the MOXF in the list of MIDI Inputs in your Host.

HOST CONNECTION

  • Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the MOXF Port 2 is enabled as a MIDI input device.

OMNISPHERE SETUP

  • Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button.
  • From the drop-down menu, select “Yamaha > Yamaha MOXF”, and activate the MOXF hardware profile that matches your keyboard.

NOTE: Omnisphere will respond to all three banks of knobs on the MOXF. To switch between each bank, press the [KNOB FUNCTION] button.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Not working? Are are some things to try:

  • Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the MOXF?
  • Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the MOXF to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired part in Omnisphere.
  • If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel of the MOXF matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere Part you want to control.
  • Are the MOXF knobs sending the correct MIDI CC messages to control Omnisphere? A quick way to check is by connecting your MOXF to the MOXF49_MOXF61 Editor application and loading the Control Template “50: Generic” from the MOXF. See the list at the top of the page for the correct MIDI CC#s.
