Setup

To control Omnisphere using the MPK Mini Plus, you’ll need to do the following:

  1. Connect the MPK Mini Plus to your computer via USB.
  2. Set up the MPK Mini Plus to control Omnisphere.
  3. Enable the MPK Mini Plus as a MIDI input device in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
  4. Activate the MPK Mini Plus Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.

MPK MINI PLUS SETUP

Omnisphere relies on the default settings of the Program named “PGM1: MPC” on the MPK Mini Plus for external control. Typically, this Program should load by default when the MPK Mini Plus is turned ON—the active Program is displayed on the LCD screen.

  • If your MPK Mini Plus already displays “PGM1: MPC” then you can move on to the next steps under “HOST CONNECTION.”
  • If a different Program is active on the MPK Mini Plus, please go through the following steps to load the correct Program to use with Omnisphere:
  1. Press the [Prog Select] button.
  2. Then use the Master Encoder to scroll until you see “PGM1: MPC” displayed on the LCD Screen.
  3. Press Down on the Master Encoder to load the Program.

HOST CONNECTION

  • Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the MPK Mini Plus is enabled as a MIDI input device.

OMNISPHERE SETUP

  • Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button.
  • From the drop-down menu, select “Akai > Akai MPK Mini Plus” to activate the MPK Mini Plus hardware profile.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Not working? Here are some things to try:

  • Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the MPK Mini Plus?
  • Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the MPK Mini Plus to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired part in Omnisphere.
  • If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel of the MPK Mini Plus matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere Part you want to control. You can check this on the MPK Mini by holding down the [SHIFT] button then press the [STOP\ Global] button. While in “Global” settings, you should see “2. MIDI: …” followed by the channel number that is in use displayed on the LCD screen. If you need to change the MIDI Channel on the MPK Mini Plus you can use the Master Encoder to hover over “2. MIDI: …,” press down on the Master Encoder, then turn the Master Encoder and select the correct MIDI Channel. Press the [HOME/ Save] button when you’re finished.
  • Are the MPK Mini Plus knobs sending the correct MIDI CC messages? You can check this by holding down the [SHIFT] button and then press the [PROG SELECT/ Edit] button.
  • Lastly, turn a knob on the MPK Mini Plus and it will display which CC# is in use.
  • Turn each Knob while in Edit Mode to match each knob to the correct CC#s (see the list at the top of the page), then press the [HOME/ Save] button when you’re finished.
