Setup

To control Omnisphere using the nanoKONTROL Studio, you’ll need to do the following:

  1. Connect the nanoKONTROL Studio to your computer via USB.
  2. Download and install the Korg USB-MIDI Driver.
  3. Set up the nanoKONTROL Studio to control Omnisphere.
  4. Enable the nanoKONTROL Studio as a MIDI input device in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
  5. Activate the nanoKONTROL Studio Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.

USB DRIVER

Korg devices require a USB-MIDI Driver when connecting to any Windows operating systems or to Mac OS 10.10 through 10.14.

  • You can check to see if the necessary USB driver has already been installed by opening up the Omnisphere Standalone (or your preferred DAW) and verify the nanoKONTROL Studio is on your list of MIDI inputs.
  • If your nanoKONTROL Studio is not on your list of MIDI inputs, access the Korg website to download and install the Korg USB-MIDI Driver.

NANOKONTROL STUDIO SETUP

Omnisphere relies on the default settings of a user Scene on the nanoKONTROL Studio while in Assignable Mode for external control.

  • If you have already customized all five Scenes then you’ll need to use the Korg KONTROL Editor to reset a Scene back for factory default settings and send the edited Scene to the nanoKONTROL Studio. You can find a list of the correct MIDI CC# assignments for each knob and slider at the top of the page.
  • If you have not customized all five Scenes, go ahead and enable “Assignable Mode” by turning OFF the nanoKONTORL Studio (there is a power switch on the back). Then turn ON the nanoKONTORL Studio while holding down the [SCENE] and [CYCLE] buttons.

Next, you’ll need to activate a Scene:

  • If you haven’t made any customizations to any Scenes on the nanoKONTROL Studio then you can move on to the next steps under “HOST CONNECTION.”
  • If you have customized one of the five Scenes on the nanoKONTROL Studio, you can simply load a new / unused Scene that has not been customized by pressing the [SCENE] button until the LED indicator light for your chosen Scene is lit.

HOST CONNECTION

Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the nanoKONTROL Studio is enabled as a MIDI input device.

OMNISPHERE SETUP

  • Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button.
  • From the drop-down menu, select “Korg > Korg nanoKONTROL Studio” to activate the nanoKONTROL Studio hardware profile.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Not working? Here are some things to try:

-Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the nanoKONTROL Studio?

  • Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the nanoKONTROL Studio to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired part in Omnisphere.
  • If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel of the nanoKONTROL Studio matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere Part you want to control.
  • Are the knobs and sliders on the nanoKONTROL Studio sending the correct MIDI CC#s to control Omnisphere? A quick way to check is by connecting your nanoKONTROL2 to the Korg KONTROL Editor application. See the list at the top of the page for the correct MIDI CC numbers.
