Setup

To control Omnisphere using the Oberheim OB-X8, you’ll need to do the following:

  • Using a USB cable, connect the OB-X8 to your computer.
  • Verify that your OB-X8 system firmware is up to date.
  • Set up the front panel to send NRPNs.
  • Enable “OB-X8” as a MIDI input device to Omnisphere in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
  • Activate the OB-X8 Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.

MIDI OUTPUT SETUP

  • Press the GLOBAL button to enter the Global menu.
  • Use the SCROLL encoder to navigate to parameter #22, labeled “MIDI Param Send”.
  • Use the VALUE encoder to change the setting to NRPN.

HOST CONNECTION

Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the Uno Synth is enabled as a MIDI input device.

OMNISPHERE SETUP

Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button:

From the drop-down menu, select “Oberheim>Oberheim OB-X8” to activate that Hardware Profile.


Profile Notes

The lever box LFO in the OB-X8 is assigned to Global Vibrato in Omnisphere.

Unassigned Controls

The following OB-X8 controls have no effect on Omnisphere:

  • SPLIT
  • DOUBLE
  • LOWER
  • UPPER
  • MOD UPPER, LOWER
  • MOD OSC1, OSC2
  • BEND OSC2 ONLY, AMOUNT
  • TUNE
  • HOLD
  • CHORD
  • MASTER TUNE

Troubleshooting

Not working? Here are some things to try:

  • Make sure the MIDI Channel is set to Ch.1.
  • If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel of the OB-X8 matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere part you want to control.
  • Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the OB-X8 to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired Part in Omnisphere.
