When using the Roland RD-2000 to control Omnisphere, the knobs on the RD-2000 are assigned to the following Omnisphere parameters:

  • Knob 1 (CC#14) – Global Controls Cutoff
  • Knob 2 (CC#15) – Global Controls Resonance
  • Knob 3 (CC#16) – Global Controls Filter Envelope Amount
  • Knob 4 (CC#17) – Global Controls Vibrato Depth
  • Knob 5 (CC#18) – Global Controls Glide
  • Knob 6 (CC#19) – Global Controls Unison
  • Knob 7 (CC#20) – Global Controls Ambience Amount
  • Knob 8 (CC#21) – Global Controls Ambience Length

Setup

To control Omnisphere using the RD-2000, you’ll need to do the following:

  1. Connect the RD-2000 to your computer via USB.
  2. Set up the RD-2000 to control Omnisphere.
  3. Download and install the Roland USB-MIDI Driver
  4. Enable the RD-2000 as a MIDI input device in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
  5. Activate the RD-2000 Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.

RD-2000 SETUP

Omnisphere relies on default settings of the knobs while set to “ASSIGN” mode on the RD-2000 for external control. Here’s how to set this up:

  • Press the [SELECT] button of the Zone that you’d like to use to control Omnisphere. In this example, we’ll select Zone [1].
  • Make sure your chosen Zone is set to EXT mode and lit up in green) – this indicates that the Zone is transmitting MIDI out of the RD-2000. If it is not green, hold the [SHIFT] button and press ZONE INT/EXT [1] (or your chosen Zone).
  • Press the [ASSIGN] button to activate the knobs.

USB DRIVER

  • Check to see if the necessary Roland RD-2000 Driver has already been installed by opening up the Omnisphere Standalone (or your preferred DAW) and verify the Roland RD-2000 is on your list of MIDI inputs.
  • If the RD-2000 is not listed as a MIDI input, download and install the driver that is compatible with your computer’s operating system from the Roland Support page. Restart the host and you should see it listed.

HOST CONNECTION

  • Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the RD-2000 is enabled as a MIDI input device.

OMNISPHERE SETUP

  • Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button.
  • From the drop-down menu, select “Roland > Roland RD-2000” to activate the RD-2000 hardware profile.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Not working? Here are some things to try:

  • Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the RD-2000?
  • Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the RD-2000 to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired part in Omnisphere.
  • If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel of the RD-2000 matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere Part you want to control.
  • Are the knobs on the RD-2000 sending the correct MIDI CC messages to control Omnisphere? A simple way to check this is by recording knob movement in your DAW.

NOTE: If you need to change the MIDI CC#s of the knobs on the RD-2000, you can do so from the RD-2000 (for steps, please refer to the RD-2000 user manual).
