When using the Kurzweil SP2 to control Omnisphere, the knobs on the SP2 will be assigned to the following Omnisphere parameters:
- Knob 1 (CC#06) – Global Controls Cutoff
- Knob 2 (CC#13) – Global Controls Ambience Amount
- Knob 3 (CC#23) – Global Controls Vibrato Depth
- Knob 4 (CC#24) – Global Controls Glide
Setup
To control Omnisphere using the SP2, you’ll need to do the following:
- Connect the SP2 to your computer via USB.
- Set up the SP2 to control Omnisphere.
- Enable the SP2 as a MIDI input device in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
- Activate the SP2 Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.
SP2 SETUP
Omnisphere relies on the factory default settings of the SP2 while in Program Mode for external control.
- You can enter Program Mode on the SP2 by pressing the [PROGRAM/ SETUP] button. Pressing the button will toggle the small LED in the button between green and red. When the LED is in red, it means that the SP2 is in Program mode.
Next, the knobs on the SP2 must be set to “MIDI Controller” mode in order to to control Omnisphere’s Global Control parameters.
- Simply press the [KNOB MODE] button until the LED next to “MIDI Controller” is lit up.
HOST CONNECTION
- Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the SP2 is enabled as a MIDI input device.
OMNISPHERE SETUP
- Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button.
- From the drop-down menu, select “Kurzweil > Kurzweil SP2” to activate the SP2 hardware profile.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Not working? Here are some things to try:
- Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the SP2?
- Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the SP2 to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired part in Omnisphere.
- If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel of the SP2 matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere Part you want to control.
- Are the knobs on the SP2 sending the correct MIDI CC messages used to control Omnisphere? A quick way to check is to press the [Setup] button and [Edit] button. Next, while holding down [Knob Mode] button, turn one of the knobs. The LCD display will show which knob was turned followed by the MIDI CC# that it is assigned to. See the list at the top of the page for the correct MIDI CC# assignments.
