When using the Kurzweil SP3 to control Omnisphere, the knobs on the SP3 will be assigned to the following Omnisphere parameters:

  • Knob 1 (CC#06) – Global Controls Cutoff
  • Knob 2 (CC#13) – Global Controls Ambience Amount
  • Knob 3 (CC#22) – Global Controls Vibrato Depth
  • Knob 4 (CC#23) – Global Controls Glide

Setup

To control Omnisphere using the SP3, you’ll need to do the following:

  1. Connect the SP3 to your computer via USB.
  2. Set up the SP3 to control Omnisphere.
  3. Enable the SP3 as a MIDI input device in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
  4. Activate the SP3 Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.

SP3 SETUP

Omnisphere relies on the factory default settings of the SP3 while in Program Mode for external control.

  • You can enter Program Mode on the SP3 by pressing the [PROGRAM/ SETUP] button. Pressing the button will toggle the small LED in the button between green and red. When the LED is in red, it means that the SP3 is in Program mode.
  • Next, the knobs on the SP3 must be set to “MIDI Controller” mode in order to to control Omnisphere’s Global Control parameters. Simply press the [KNOB MODE] button until the LED next to “MIDI Controller” is lit up.

HOST CONNECTION

  • Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the SP3 is enabled as a MIDI input device.

OMNISPHERE SETUP

  • Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button.
  • From the drop-down menu, select “Kurzweil > Kurzweil SP3” to activate the SP3 hardware profile.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Not working? Here are some things to try:

  • Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the SP3?
  • Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the SP3 to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired part in Omnisphere.
  • If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel of the SP3 matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere Part you want to control.
  • Are the knobs on the SP3 sending the correct MIDI CC messages used to control Omnisphere? A quick way to check is to press the [Setup] button and [Edit] button. Next, while holding down [Knob Mode] button, turn one of the knobs. The LCD display will show which knob was turned followed by the MIDI CC# to which it is assigned. See the list at the top of the page for the correct MIDI CC# assignments.
