Setup

To control Omnisphere using the SP6, you’ll need to do the following:

  1. Connect the SP6 to your computer via USB.
  2. Set up the SP6 to control Omnisphere.
  3. Enable the SP6 as a MIDI input device in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
  4. Activate the SP6 Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.

SP6 SETUP

Omnisphere relies on the factory default settings of the SP6 while in Program Mode for external control.

  • You can enter Program Mode on the SP6 by pressing the [PROGRAM] button. You’re in Program Mode when the LED light on the [PROGRAM] button is lit. Once in Program Mode, press button [1] to load Piano 1—this loads the factory Setup that will be used to control Omnisphere.
  • To switch between these banks, press the [SHIFT] button until the LED next to “Filter” is lit up or until the LED next to “FX1” is lit up.

HOST CONNECTION

  • Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the SP3 is enabled as a MIDI input device.

OMNISPHERE SETUP

  • Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button.
  • From the drop-down menu, select “Kurzweil > Kurzweil SP6” to activate the SP3 hardware profile.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Not working? Here are some things to try:

  • Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the SP3?
  • Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the SP3 to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired part in Omnisphere.
  • If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel of the SP3 matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere Part you want to control.
  • Are the knobs on the SP3 sending the correct MIDI CC messages used to control Omnisphere? A quick way to check is by pressing the [PROGRAM] button, then press [EDIT]. Next, navigate to the “All Parameters” page by using the [CHANNEL] / [PAGE] buttons then go to the “Controls” column using the [PREVIOUS] / [NEXT] buttons to view the MIDI CC# assignments for each knob. See the list at the top of the page for the correct MIDI CC#s.
