When using the Korg SQ64 to control Omnisphere, the knobs on the SQ64 are assigned to the following Omnisphere parameters:

  • Knob 1 (CC#43) – Global Controls Cutoff
  • Knob 2 (CC#39) – Global Controls Ambience Amount
  • Knob 3 (CC#16) – Global Controls Vibrato Depth
  • Knob 4 (CC#17) – Global Controls Glide

Setup

To control Omnisphere using the SQ64, you’ll need to do the following:

  1. Connect the SQ64 to your computer via USB.
  2. Download and install the Korg USB-MIDI Driver.
  3. Set up the SQ64 to control Omnisphere.
  4. Enable the SQ64 as a MIDI input device in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
  5. Activate the SQ64 Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.

USB DRIVER

Korg devices require a USB-MIDI Driver when connecting to any Windows operating systems or to Mac OS 10.10 through 10.14.

  • You can check to see if the necessary USB driver has already been installed by opening up the Omnisphere Standalone (or your preferred DAW) and verify the SQ64 is on your list of MIDI inputs.
  • If your SQ64 is not on your list of MIDI inputs, access the Korg website to download and install the Korg USB-MIDI Driver.

SQ64 SETUP

Omnisphere relies on the factory default settings of “Control Mode” on the SQ64 for external control. You can press the [Control] button to activate Control Mode.

HOST CONNECTION

Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the SQ64 is enabled as a MIDI input device.

OMNISPHERE SETUP

  • Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button.
  • From the drop-down menu, select “Korg > Korg SQ64” to activate the SQ64 hardware profile.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Not working? Here are some things to try:

  • Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the SQ64?
  • Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the SQ64 to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired part in Omnisphere.
  • If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel of the SQ64 matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere Part you want to control.
  • Are the knobs on the SQ64 sending the correct MIDI CC messages? A simple way to check this is by using MIDI Monitor by Snoize or recording knob movement in your DAW and check the list at the top of the page for the correct MIDI CC numbers.

NOTE: If you want to change the MIDI CC#s for the knobs on the SQ64, you’ll need to connect your SQ64 to the KORG KONTROL Editor and update the MIDI CC#s there.
