Setup

To control Omnisphere using the VI49, you’ll need to do the following:

  1. Connect the VI49 to your computer via USB.
  2. Set up the VI49 to control Omnisphere.
  3. Enable the VI49 as a MIDI input device in the host software you’re using (DAW, Standalone, etc.).
  4. Activate the VI49 Hardware Profile in Omnisphere 3 or later.

ALESIS VI49 SETUP

Omnisphere relies on the factory default settings of any blank Preset on the Alesis VI49 for external control.

  • If you haven’t customized any Presets on the VI49, then you can move on to the next steps under “HOST CONNECTION.”
  • If you have customized any of the 25 available Presets on the VI49, you can simply load a new/ unused Preset that has not been customized using the Preset UP and DOWN arrow buttons located below the LCD display
  • If you have customized all available Presets on the VI49 then you’ll need to use the Alesis VI49 Preset Editor to make a Preset that matches each knob to the MIDI CC#s at the top of the page.

HOST CONNECTION

  • Open your host (DAW, Standalone, etc.) and make sure the VI49 is enabled as a MIDI input device.

OMNISPHERE SETUP

  • Open Omnisphere and from the header, select the HW menu button.
  • From the drop-down menu, select “Alesis > Alesis VI49” to activate the VI49 Hardware Profile.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Not working? Here are some things to try:

  • Is your DAW receiving MIDI from the VI49?
  • Make sure your DAW is configured to correctly route the MIDI output of the VI49 to the MIDI channel assigned to the desired part in Omnisphere.
  • If you are using the Omnisphere standalone host, make sure the MIDI output channel of the VI49 matches the MIDI channel of the Omnisphere Part you want to control.
